Moving to SC VEHICLE LICENSE JUST MOVED HERE? HOME |
|
| One might think that the first step in the process of having come from another state and registering your vehicles now in SC is to make a trip to the DMV office. If you do that first, you are wasting your time. Having just gone through the process, let me explain what is needed concerning vehicle registrations if you are just moving into South Carolina. |
| 1. Take
certification of current vehicle insurance information and evidence of
ownership such as vehicle registration or title to the Greenville County
Auditor's office (467-7040), or whatever county you are in.
Greenville County Auditor is located in Greenville County Square on
University Ridge. [Coming from Taylors to Greenville on Wade Hampton
Boulevard, go left onto Church Street. Pass through downtown, go over a
bridge. Turn right onto University Ridge. Look for the
long building on the right. Go into the LEFT front entrance. Go past
suite 700 (where you will pay your tax) to suite 800, the Auditor's
office.] They will assess your vehicle there. If you have high mileage,
make a note of it. Over 15,000 miles/year qualifies you
for a tax break. This office opens at 8:30AM. Try to be there
early or you may have to wait in line. At 12:00 noon, one or more
attendants go to lunch, slowing down the line. 2. Go back to Suite 700 (Treasurer's Office) and pay your tax. 3. Go to the nearest DMV office (see listings by County). Take with you your paid tax receipt. 4. You will need to take an eye exam there. 5. Click back on Vehicle License to get more info about license and vehicle requirements. |
